You could call Cody Tyler “red dirt country,” but the rocky soil in coal country and the rust belt, where his family has been rooted for centuries, is a few shades darker.
Hailing from the foothills of Appalachia, Cody is an old soul, drawing heavy influence from the likes of Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, The Allman Brothers Band, Sturgill Simpson, and more. Together with his band, Cody’s wide-ranging voice and guitar sport a multigenerational road-tested sound.
The band consists of six-string prodigy Raif Groves on lead guitar, laid back and rock-steady drummer Gavin Orth, and groove-oriented and precise fretless bassist Sean Grahn. Together, Cody and the band are able to bend genres and include elements of bluegrass and southern rock in their unique coal country sound with a rust belt attitude that Cody calls “Black Dirt Country.”

In 2024, Cody and the band were the winners of the I-105 WIOV Showdown in the Park, securing an opening slot at the 2024 I-105 Fall Fest, where they opened for Cole Swindell, Gabby Barrett, and more in front of a crowd of over 17,000. In 2023, the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame awarded the band with two CPMA’s for Album of the Year for their efforts on Stare Your Demons Down and Best Country Band at the 4th Annual Central Pennsylvania Music Awards at the Hershey Theatre in Hershey, PA. In 2019, Cody was the runner-up in the Tumbleweed Country Music Festival Rising Star Talent Search in La Cygne, KS, which featured over 300 country music artists from the US and Canada. In 2017, he was a Top 150 vocalist for Season 14 of NBC’s The Voice, reaching the executive producer callback auditions in Los Angeles.
